CUSTOM STAINLESS STEEL INDEXER FOR DEMANDING FOOD PROCESSING ENVIRONMENT

CHALLENGE

A food processing customer needed an indexer for use in a demanding food preparation industry that would be capable of high pressure wash down and other cleanliness requirements. Prior designs involved a servo driven gear reducer but the gear reducer would frequently leak oil risking contamination of the product.

SOLUTION

We designed a stainless steel indexer based on our CAMCO 800RD model.

• The special indexer housing was constructed from bent and welded stainless steel plate that provides smoother lines for more thorough wash down and removal of bacteria
• To protect against wash-water ingress and oil leakage, a unique "labyrinth" seal was developed and successfully tested.
• The indexer is driven by a servo motor that is encased in stainless steel.

RESULTS

After having run the new indexer for nearly a year, the customer is very pleased with the results of indexer, telling us that it is a great improvement over what they were using. They are planning to expand the use of this design over two product families.
