MACHINING AUTOMATION - IMPROVE YOUR MANUFACTURING FACILITY

For over 40 years, DESTACO has been assisting machine operators optimize their critical machining processes through automation products and expertise. From the initial planning phases to unloading finished materials from machines with Robohand grippers - and the other mission-critical operations in-between, DESTACO can help you achieve increased uptime and efficiency.

Automating your machining processes can have many benefits for your manufacturing facility, including:

  • Streamlining, optimizing manufacturing
  • Make best use of shop floorspace
  • Increased accuracy, leading to less mistakes and waste
  • Automate loading and unloading of workpieces
  • Set-up tooling and orientate parts to fit the application
  • Monitor force, deviations in temperature, and damage to robotic tooling

Automating CNC Applications

DESTACO is especially adept at CNC machining applications involving loading and unloading raw materials from machines. In many cases, this requires two grippers with different finger designs, as the geometry of parts can change in-between loading/unloading.

Here are just a few of the raw materials that DESTACO has helped customers handle successfully:

  • Billets
  • Forgings
  • Bar stock
  • Casting
  • Other materials with wide tolerance zones

Benefits of IP (Ingress Protection) Rated Grippers

DESTACO products also excel in machining applications within harsh environments, in-part to Robohand grippers with high IP ratings. IP is important, because chips, burs, and debris from the operation may damage grippers without this rating. Even if a non-IP rated gripper isn’t directly handling a part, it can still become damaged, for example – if blown-off debris from adjacent tooling enters the gripper.

Even if your tooling won’t encounter debris, cutting fluids, and/or coolant – it’s important to consider using equipment that meets some of these application challenges:

  • Dull - the operator loads the raw blank and then removes the finished part.
  • Dirty - debris and coolant in the machine.
  • Dangerous – there may be sharp chips or burrs on the part. A gripper pair on a robot is a great solution. One gripper for taking out the finished part and one for inserting the raw material. This also saves time.

During unloading and the final stages of handling, it’s important to know what will be done with the part. DESTACO experts can help you coordinate how the part may be dropped in a bin, placed on a conveyor, inserted into a tray, or many other transporting methods.
